What Is SBECD Used For?
Sulfobutyl-β-cyclodextrin is an anionic cyclodextrin derivative with better water solubility.
It will form a non-covalent complex with many APIs (water-insoluble) to improve and optimize API properties.
The SBECD & Heparin complex exhibits biological activity similar to heparin but with lower nephrotoxicity, so SBECD is widely used as a high-end injection carrier.
SBECD will make APIs more stable and more readily soluble in water for injection. It will also lower their renal toxicity and reduce their chances of hemolysis.
We also use SBECD to control the release rate of active ingredients while covering API odors and bitter tastes.
Studies have shown that about 40% of new APIs are insoluble in water, and nearly 60% have poor water solubility.
Due to their poor water solubility, clinical trials of new drugs are less effective than expected.
This poor water solubility has significantly slowed the approval of these new molecules as new drugs.
Therefore, many pharmaceutical manufacturers have widely used Sulfobutyl-β-cyclodextrin sodium to improve the solubility of poorly water-soluble APIs, thereby enabling many new drugs to be approved.
