What is Vitamin K1?
Vitamin K1 Oil, also known as phylloquinone or phytonadione, is a yellow to orange, viscous, but transparent liquid.
This oil is odorless and insoluble in water, but it is fat-soluble in lipids, such as ether and vegetable oil, and slightly soluble in ethanol.
Vitamin K1 is relatively stable when exposed to moisture and air but quickly decomposes when exposed to sunlight.
What Does Vitamin K1 Do?
Because there are two types of Vitamin K1, pharma-grade and food-grade, we mainly discuss its role as a pharmaceutical ingredient.
As an active pharmaceutical ingredient, Vitamin K1 is mainly used to treat coagulation disorders resulting from impaired formation of coagulation factors II, VII, IX, and X due to vitamin K1 deficiency.
Vitamin K1 is also used to treat ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, intestinal resection, pancreatic cystic fibrosis, regional enteritis, or hypoprothrombinemia caused by interference with vitamin K1 metabolism.
Below is what vitamin K1 mainly does:
1 Anti-bleeding
Vitamin K1 is essential for blood clotting. It is absorbed into the intestine and acts on the liver to produce clotting.
Therefore, it can help to prevent bleeding.
2 Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis
Vitamin K1 is also very effective in preventing and treating osteoporosis. It can help phosphorylate glucose in cells and promote the body’s absorption and utilization of sugar and calcium.
Vitamin K1 can also promote calcium metabolism. Studies have shown that women who take a certain amount of vitamin K1 daily can reduce their rate of calcium loss by 30%.
3 Preventing migraines
Studies have shown that vitamin K1 can also prevent and control various types of migraines, with its effect being significantly better than that of other migraine drugs.
4. Prevention of gastrointestinal disorders
Vitamin K1 is a fat-soluble vitamin that can help treat some gastrointestinal diseases, such as chronic enteritis and diarrhea.
It can work with vitamin U to protect and repair the gastric mucous membrane and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal diseases.
In addition to its use in humans, vitamin K1 is also used in dogs due to vitamin K deficiency.
It is often used in conjunction with vitamin K2 (MK4, MK7, etc.) to treat ill dogs exhibiting such symptoms.
Where Can I Buy Vitamin K1 For Dogs?
If you need to buy vitamin K1 for dogs, there are several places you can go to:
#1. B2C Websites, such as Amazon and eBay, offer branded vitamin K1 tablets for dogs at reasonable prices.
#2. If your dogs are allergic to certain excipients in branded formulations sold on B2C sites above, you should call local or online animal compounding pharmacies for compounded vitamin K1 dosages for your dogs to eliminate possible allergic reactions
#3. If those animal compounding pharmacies are out of pure vitamin K1 oils, please import small quantities of pure oils from China. 100 grams is around 300~400 USD. Then do the compounding yourself, but if your compounding pharmacies are willing, let them do it; they are more professional.
How Much Does Vitamin K1 Cost?
If you need bulk Vitamin K1 API to produce injections or other forms of VK1 medicines, you must order pure Vitamin K1 oil with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification.
As far as we know, China is the leading supplier of vitamin K1 oil besides BSF and DSM.
Due to the high cost of BSF and DSM, they also import some VK1 oil from China to supplement their production capacity.
For pharma-grade 98% type Vitamin K1 pure oil, our FOB price for commercial order quantities is approximately $2,600 USD/kg.
If you are a nutritional food manufacturer that does not require GMP to produce food, all you need is food-grade ingredients with Halal/Kosher or ISO certification. The price is slightly lower, around $2,200 per kilo. For costs related to other specifications of 5%, 10%, or 15%, please get in touch with us via email to request an updated quote.
Those VK1 prices must account for the cost of dispersing the excipients required for production.
How To Ship Vitamin K1 From China?
As for shipping, unlike Vitamin D3 pure powder, Vitamin K1 oil is a safe chemical that can be shipped by air, courier, sea, or rail.
DGM and other authorities have tested and proved that VK1 is not dangerous, as it does not belong to any of the following categories:
#1. Explosives
#2. Flammable substances
#3. Oxidizing substances and organic peroxides
#4. Toxic and infectious substances
#5. Radioactive materials
#6. Corrosives
#7. Other dangerous properties.
So, air and courier companies such as FedEx and TNT are more than happy to ship it.
If vitamin K1 is suitable for air shipment, you can ship it by seeing commercial quantities; it’s no problem.
All you need to worry about during shipping is the packaging and temperature.
Ensure the package is well sealed to prevent air exposure and protected from sunlight.
While a short period at room temperature is acceptable for shipping, the temperature should be maintained at a minimum of 30 degrees Celsius.
