What is Emeramide (NBMI/BDTH2)?
What Is Emeramide Used For?
Emeramide, also called BDTH2, NBMI, or OSR, is a white to off-white crystalline powder organically synthesized in the lab with its characteristic stinky odor of naked and reductive sulfhydryl group (-SH).
Our related residual solvents are methanol and ethanol, which we use for refining and crystallization.
It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in fat or lipids.
However, it is soluble in DMSO, which makes its 1H NMR testing in DMSO solution easier.
Emeramide was previously used to treat mercury-contaminated soil and water; later, with NBMI, people successfully detoxified animals with mercury poisoning.
It is one of our recently developed active molecules: a brand-new lipid-soluble antioxidant and a novel heavy-metal chelator mainly used for mercury poisoning.
Its chemical structure is well-suited to capturing heavy metals, especially mercury(II), in groundwater and soil. However, due to the small demand in the current market, our commercial manufacturing facility has yet to be used.
Even kilogram orders are big orders for us.
We are still producing kilograms in our pilot labs and cannot sell out our one production batch within six months.
What Heavy Metals Can Emeramide Chelate?
NBMI is the best-known reagent for chelating mercury ions to precipitate from polluted water.
The sediment of BDTH-Hg or NBMI-Hg is so stable that it will trap and capture almost all mercury ions in water, even when the mercury ion concentration level in aqueous solutions is very low.
What makes BDTH2 better is that BDTH2 will still bind mercury even after being oxidized into a disulfide.
Regardless of their pH, they will work in all sorts of water solutions, whether acidic, basic, or neutral.
In addition to the notorious heavy metal mercury, NBMI effectively precipitates other divalent metals in groundwater or soil, such as copper, lead, arsenic, selenium, and cadmium.
Scientific studies show that BDTH2 can chelate mercury, lead, cadmium, copper, manganese, zinc, and iron, thereby crossing the blood-brain barrier.
Mercury (Hg), especially from groundwater, gold ore, wastewater from battery-recycling plants, coal tailings, and contaminated soils, can be effectively chelated, enabling the treatment and cleaning of waters and soils.
What Are The Symptoms of Heavy Metal Poisoning?
There are two types of heavy metal poisoning: acute and chronic poisoning.
What we are talking about here is chronic poisoning by heavy metals.
We can find heavy metals everywhere: in the water, air, food, toys, etc.
If you live in a heavy-metal polluted environment for a while, there are risks that you may get heavy metal poisoning.
Common symptoms of heavy metal poisoning include nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, diarrhea, abdominal pain, tingling of your hands and feet, chills, and weakness.
If you have lived in environments polluted by heavy metals, it is better to see a doctor immediately if you have such symptoms.
How Much Does Bulk Emeramide Cost?
The price of NBMI depends on your order quantity and is subject to fluctuations in upstream raw material prices.
If you need to buy a few grams for lab research, you can first compare our prices with those from other companies.
For an order quantity of 100G~500 G, the cost from octagonchem is around 30usd/G
For small orders of 10~20 G, our price is about 40~50 USD per gram.
Now, please check the costs from the reagent companies below. The best price from them is 70 USD/g for 5g.
Currently, the shipping cost is also not stable. However, we will cover shipping to the UK and US for orders over 500 USD.
You can contact us directly for details on the cost, whether you are from the UK or Canada.
How Is Emeramide Produced In the Lab?
As a professional emeramide supplier in China, we share our synthesis route for your reference.
The lab synthesis of NBMI can be done using a one-step synthesis route, as shown above.
We have to ensure the reaction takes place at a low temperature.
First, we dissolve 2-aminoethylthiol hydrochloride in a mixture of chloroform and triethylamine, then place the flask in an ice bath while stirring.
We slowly add the solution containing Isophthaloyl chloride dissolved in chloroform. When we stir the mixture in the flask in an ice bath for two hours,
NBMI will precipitate after we add about 100 mL of 0.1 M hydrochloric acid solution.
Later, we collect and dry the powder to obtain the target molecule.
What Is the HS Code Of NBMI?
Emeramide is classified as an organic compound belonging to the class of Other organic sulfur compounds.
It has the HS code 2930909099 in China Customs in 2024.
If you want to import its finished formulations, its HS code should be 30049092 or 3004900000.
Check with your import broker before your import.
Emeramide Dosages
It was designated as an orphan drug by the European Commission and the USFDA in 2012.
As of 2024, it is still being processed by the pharmaceutical company EmeraMed Limited under the trade name Irminix.
Currently, the drug-development company can offer a 14-day course of Irminix® at 300 mg per day.

How Does Emeramide Work In Vivo?
Mercury toxicity occurs at the intracellular level by binding Hg2+ to the thiol groups of relevant proteins.
In animal models, mercury toxicity can be alleviated with BDTH2, which crosses cell membranes and the blood-brain barrier to chelate Hg2+.
Also, in clinical trials conducted by Emeramed Limited, BDTH2 proved to be a safe, effective way to detoxify mercury without the issues and side effects associated with other chelating agents.
In vivo research (300mg per day) shows that it captures mercury and other heavy metals, which helps create free radicals and restore normal mitochondrial functions and overall health.
Clinical research has shown no toxicity associated with NBNI to date.
It has been sold as a nutritional supplement under the trade name OSR-1 for many years.
With the trade name of Irminix, it has already been approved by the European Medicines Agency.
How To Ship and Store Emeramide Powder?
#1. Shipping methods
The pure powder of NBMI is a white to almost white crystal, with a characteristic acid or sour smell.
When there is a color change or odor, test it for possible degradation.
As for shipping methods, it is a non-hazardous chemical that can be shipped by air, courier, or sea.
It is not a dangerous chemical, toxic, flammable, explosive, or oxidative.
It is very stable if you seal and protect it from light, moisture, or heat.
We can ship internationally at room temperature, so ice is unnecessary to keep it cool.
Based on our shipping experiences over the past two years, it remains stable during shipment at normal temperature, with no apparent impurities detected by HPLC after our customers received it.
#2. Storage
After receiving the package, store it at -20 degrees Celsius for long-term storage.
Shelf life under -20 degrees can be as long as 5 years.
For short-term storage of several days, weeks, or even months, 2~8 degrees Celsius will be ok.
Shelf life for 2~8 degrees is 2 years.
Ensure the package is airtight, and protect it from light and heat.
